Family K — Papers 93–99, Melchizedek and the Hebrew Story
The Salem doctrines in the Orient and the Occident — Melchizedek of Salem and his teaching’s asserted spread into the Hebrew scriptures and the faiths of Asia. 191 entries, 373 graded assignments — the largest family yet audited.

86% of assignments testable. By the papers’ own bulk, the untestable material is the large majority of these seven papers.
In plain words
Exactly one claim landed squarely right: the Buddha described as the heir of a petty clan chieftain, which is where modern reconstruction has arrived, stated more crisply than the era’s own textbooks had it. Around it, the family divides almost evenly between what rhymes and what the era had. Much holds up as fine era scholarship — a battle alignment the Bible itself never mentions, the second Isaiah spanning exactly chapters 40 to 55. But where these papers invent detail, they invent it whole: more than a hundred thousand tithe-payers supporting the Salem headquarters, in an age when the town on that site held perhaps five hundred to two thousand people altogether. And once, strangely, the book argues with itself — treating Isaiah one way in one section and another way a few sections later, though elsewhere it divides Isaiah exactly where modern scholarship does. Two shelves of its era’s learning, set side by side and never reconciled.
What held up
- The family’s single MATCH (K44(ii)) — Gautama as heir of a petty Shakya chieftain: also its smallest-scale claim, recorded at its full weight and no more.
- Deutero-Isaiah spanning exactly chapters 40–55 (K134), and the Qarqar synchronism of 853 B.C. — the era’s critical synthesis, transcribed fluently.
- The Amesha Spenta, six for six; Amenemope within the bounds of Erman’s 1924 edition.
What didn’t
- Over a hundred thousand tithe-payers at Salem (93:6.8, K15) — against a Middle Bronze town of perhaps five hundred to two thousand souls. The family signature: specificity invented outright.
- An erupting volcano for Sinai, against Precambrian granite; Shiva and Vishnu set a thousand years late against the Heliodorus pillar, in print since 1877; ‘judgment’ said to occur once in the Psalms, where it occurs dozens of times.
- Paper 97 against itself — §5 against §7 on Isaiah (K130(ii)); Paper 94 likewise, §7 against §8.
Rider 1 fired on 52 assignments at their verdict lines; Rider 2 forced splits at 60 recorded points. Eight verdicts flip under the strict 1935 freeze — seven softening toward the text, one hardening (K112, the small-Exodus-nucleus rhyme). Every agreement in this family traces to the era’s critical synthesis — Wellhausen, Duhm, Breasted, Cumont, Erman — transcribed fluently.
