The Urantia Papers — A Consolidated Edition
Editor: Charles A. Murphree · Independent Researcher · Concord, New Hampshire
November 6, 2026
The editor's creed, in his own words (November 6, 2026): the work attempts "only to bridge and harmonize the text, all in itself aligned with 2026 and original plot" — the original plot intact, the inputs aligned with present knowledge.
"We full well know that, while the historic facts and religious truths of this series of revelatory presentations will stand on the records of the ages to come, within a few short years many of our statements regarding the physical sciences will stand in need of revision in consequence of additional scientific developments and new discoveries. These new developments we even now foresee, but we are forbidden to include such humanly undiscovered facts in the revelatory records. Let it be made clear that revelations are not necessarily inspired. The cosmology of these revelations is not inspired. It is limited by our permission for the co-ordination and sorting of present-day knowledge." — The Urantia Book, Paper 101:4.2 ("The Limitations of Revelation"; 101:4.1 adds that any cosmology presented as part of revealed religion "is destined to be outgrown in a very short time.")
Designated by the editor as a framing text for the whole project: the passage that anticipates — and licenses — the revision this edition attempts. It heads every bench draft, and it heads this compilation.
How this edition works
This edition is a consolidation: every section of the text below was corrected under all the Claim Ledger's signed audit grades at once — the science shelf (Families A–I) and the history wing (Families J–K) — not merely under the grades of its own family. It was built under the editor's consolidation ruling of November 5, 2026, and it stands on three layers:
- The original layer — inviolate. The 1955 text is never altered, anywhere, by anything in this edition. What the original says can be read in the original; this document is not it.
- The revised layer — this edition. The original's voice, with its science and history corrected to present knowledge, dated and versioned, every change keyed to the signed grade that licenses it. Corrections are licensed only by signed grades. Where correction would require inventing an argument or replacing a subject, the passage is not forced: it stands under a marker (below).
- The companion layer — beside the text, never woven in. Notes, glosses, and rulings stand next to the passages they concern, labeled as what they are. Nothing in the companion layer pretends to be the text.
The marks used throughout:
- [BRIDGEWORK] — a connective passage written to carry the text across a correction, held strictly true to Paper 101:4.2 and to the original's voice and intent. Bridgework adds no new claims, imagery, or arguments, and it is always tagged and apparatus-keyed.
- [AUTHORSHIP BOUNDARY — stands verbatim] — a passage whose correction would cross from editing into authorship. It stands exactly as written, flagged, as an open problem of record.
- ⟦key⟧ — an apparatus reference: the signed audit entry (by family and item) that grades the passage and licenses whatever was done to it.
- Companion notes — set apart under their own heads. The reader always knows which layer he is reading.
Theology is never graded, and none is graded here. The audits weighed claims — dates, places, mechanisms, counts — and the revision reaches exactly as far as the weighing reached, and no farther. What the checking could not vet does not stand in silence: it stands with a note saying so. Accountability is the rule underneath all the others: the note makes the text answerable; the editor's name makes the editor answerable.
